  1. 10th Night

I was walking up very steep cobbled streets of some old and picturesque European town. I did not reach where I was suppose to before night fall. A woman in her early 20’s opened up her home to us (it was me and a man).

Her flat was a modest basement of two rooms. Through the front door, we stepped into the livingroom. It was all white with no windows. The furniture pushed up against the walls because in the centre was a swimming pool. One had to swim to get to a couch. There was no ledge to walk on. The water was bright aquamarine. It had some insects in it. Not too much, just enough to make you want to remove them before getting in.

The other room was long and thin and had a window. The window was held ajar. It was a study with desk, chair, bookcase even a globe. It had an earthy palate. Mahogany and terracota. This room was flooded, it was part of the design. The entire room was a  shallow pool. Water up to the ankles.

In the livingroom I noticed two butterflies. One large, majestic deep blue in colour. The other small and white. I thought to myself that they will not survive in here, that I must get them out of here. The majestic blue one did not fit in my hands. Nonetheless, I managed to catch it and ever so carefully let it out into the night from the window. The white one fitted into my hands. I felt its wings flutter against my palms. I let it go into the night also.
